Plans for Over-Your-Head Words
If you don't set your own parameters or goals, someone else will set them for you.
We talked about the three choices – let the words go over your head or up your nose where you can use them for healing or as poison.
How do you actually do that?
Well, first we have to surround ourselves with boundaries or parameters. These don’t need to be very specific and can be, if you like, only contain feeling or emotional words – peace, joy, happiness, silliness, laughter, belonging, connection, togetherness, learning, growth and so on.
If you don’t set your own direction, others will.
So, having set the words and attributes you want in your life, you can make the first choice – does this conversation serve me in any way? If it doesn’t fit into the parameter or boundary you’ve set, it goes over your head … it’s gone and forgotten forever.
This might include all media pronouncements, advertisements, lies, political promises and unqualified opinions, for example.
You get to choose the content, emotional or otherwise, and you get to choose the sources which you can ignore.
After some perseverance and practice you will find yourself doing it automatically and effortlessly. You might just ‘forget’ to turn on the TV news, you’ll stop being aware of advertisements and you’ll spot a lie before it’s uttered.
By eliminating everything that does not serve you, you’ll be sailing in clean air, a sailors say, unmolested and undeterred by the actions and intentions of others. In your clear air, you’ll sail faster, turn quicker and have a beautiful space for knowing yourself more deeply.
Do you feel a freshness around you now? Just knowing you have these choices created some clear air and your growing awareness will have let something go already. Well done.
We’ll talk about healing or poisoning your soul with what you take in, in the next chapter.
